Kayla stood on the ledge of the tower, watching the sprawling metropolis as the airspeeders zoomed past in a flow of unrelenting traffic. She turned her attention back to the matter at hand. The murder of a senator was a cause for concern, and the fact that it had been Senator Agmar was one of even more important concern. He had been about to sign a peace treaty with rebel forces near Naboo known as the Death Dealers. A group of mercantile but effective warriors and firebrands who had upset most of the population. There still existed a deep hatred of the jedi being branded as child stealer's and barbarians was almost too much for Kayla to bear.
The Senator had been found sprawled out on his body. The conclusion was he had been cut in half by a lightsaber. The cauterized marks were unmistakable.
"What do you think?" Asked Orin-Kai "Sith?"
Orin was a younger jedi she had been assigned to look after temporarily. It was not unusual for a padawan to have many masters, but in Orin's case this was due to convenience, his own master attending a secret meeting of the jedi council. It was not expected that Kayla would do more than continue his training, the fact she had been called away to a mission was inconvenient. She had attempted to contact his master but was unable to do so.
"Not likely," she said stepping around the body. "It's too obvious, the sith work in shadows. They wouldn't want us to alert us until the last minute if at all. It's definitely just someone who stole a lightsaber."
"Rogue jedi maybe?" Orin suggested.
"If so he wasn't a well trained one," replied Kayla curtly. "The cut is uneven and sloppy, it was performed by someone who had never held a lightsaber before."
"So some random of the street did this?"
"Once again you jump to conclusions without thinking," replied Kayla. "The senator had a heavy duty security team, the only time he was left alone was during his hours of work. And to get into the tower itself is an amazing feat. There are no signs of a forced entry. It's far more likely someone who knew the senator, and his routine well. Look at his face. There is no fear. He was caught unaware of his assailant."
"So we need a list of people who knew the senators routine?" Asked Orin.
"Exactly," finished Kayla. They took one last sweep of the room before leaving.
